Peace will be attained when we, as human beings…

      1. Permit ourselves to acknowledge that some of our old beliefs
about God and about Life are no longer working.

      2. Explore the possibility that there is something we do not understand
about God and about Life, the understanding of which could change everything.

      3. Announce that we are willing for new understandings of God and Life to
now be brought forth, understandings that could produce a new way of life on this planet.

      4. Courageously examine these new understandings and, if they align with our
personal inner truth and knowing, enlarge our belief system to include them.

      5. Express our lives as a demonstration of our highest beliefs, rather than
      as a denial of them.

I live in a country in which Islam is the major religion and where there was recently a mining disaster in which 400 people were killed caused by an exploding transformer which shouldn’t have been placed down a mine shaft. This is by no means an isolated incident although most incidents are smaller and go unnoticed by the majority of people. The thing is, every day I see people engaged in careless behavior which goes from not fixing things that need to be fixed, not observing safety precautions such as wearing seat belts and driving recklessly and I blame it on this underlying idea of destiny.

sure they will be sad when something happens but I always see such things and behavior excused as ‘Gods will’ and if you try to explain that maybe it was human error, peole get angry at you. Even the prime minister stood in front of people and said it was their destiny to die that day. I agree that the universe does step in to teach us lessons from time to time but the quote mentioned at the top of this page seemed so fitting.

I believe that societies manifest things as much as humans do and until we can separate ourselves from misguided beliefs the better everybody will be.

This is a classic example of how I think a major religion has failed people.
